He brought the wonder of music to the world.

Leonard Bernstein was a conductor, a composer, a teacher, a pianist, a communicator and a humanitarian. His talent and energy were boundless. And his skills as a communicator were unmatched. He conducted with passion and authority, composed with inspiration and craft, and taught with insight and encouragement. Bernstein didn't just create some of the great music of the 20th century, he also enhanced the enjoyment of music for audiences young and old. His music continues to be performed in concert halls, theaters and scared spaces around the world. We are proud to honor his work and his memory.

Internationally acclaimed Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter
Music of Teresienstadt.
Featuring Daniel Hope, Violin & Bengt Forseberg, Piano.

Sunday, April 26, 7:30pm

Theresienstadt was the notorious "model" concentration camp north of Prague where the Nazis allowed musicians, artists and intellectuals to "flourish," which indeed they did, despite malnutrition and appalling conditions, and despite the daily dispatch of many of their numbers to their deaths at Auschwitz and other concentration camps. It is the music of the composers interned in Theresienstadt that the internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter will sing at this remarkable concert.

Ms. von Otter is considered to be one of the great singers of her generation. She has been invited to sing with and for many of the major conductors, orchestras, opera houses and recording companies the world-over. A recording of the music of Theresienstadt was released to great acclaim several months ago bey Deutsche Gramophone. Her tour of this program is beginning here in Hartford with this concert, and will take her to Carnegie Hall the following Saturday. Anne Sofie von Otter's efforts to bring to the world's attention the music created at Theresienstadt is her tribute to the creative spark that can truly illuminate our very darkest hours.
